Why Jatropha ?

• Seeds have a high oil content of around 30 - 42 percent
• It has high seed yielding (1000 - 1300 liter oil per hectare)
• Jatropha Curcas requires only moderate rainfall (approx. 600mm only) and can withstand long periods of drought, but will also grow under higher rainfall.
• It is a permanent, easy to manage crop that, once established, can last for 40 - 60 Years. Therefore eliminates traditional annual nursery preparations and planting
• Due to its low demand on soil fertility and nutrients, it is ideal crop to adapt with marginal lands
• The oil is not competing with food grade oils and has a steady market
• The toxicity of the plant is sensed by cattle & animals and therefore do not get foraged on
• Jatropha Curcas is classified as a non-invading species of plant, established only when planted
• Suitable for both small scale and large scale plantations
• Can be Inter-Cropped with other food crops
